Amid various looming ocean crises such as global warming, acidification, oxygen depletion, marine debris, and depletion of ocean resources, blue carbon ecosystems (BC ecosystems), including eelgrass beds, are contributing to global warming mitigation by sequestering carbon. An international symposium has been held with the participation of various stakeholders to share the latest knowledge on BC ecosystems, which have many other functions, and to strengthen cooperation among stakeholders working for the conservation and restoration of coastal areas and to promote their efforts. The symposium has shared abstracts of activities for the conservation and restoration of blue carbon ecosystems in Japan and abroad. In addition, we had discussed and disseminated a declaration that will serve as a guideline for action five to ten years from now as a new guideline for eelgrass bed and blue carbon ecosystem conservation and restoration ( https://amamo2023.com/en/ ) . 1.
